In recent years, chromotherapy and aromatherapy, disciplines known as "gentle therapies," have made significant progress thanks to numerous scientific studies highlighting the influence of colors and aromas on multiple systems, especially the nervous and immune systems.
The chromo-sensory garden displays plant specimens selected for the fragrance of their scent and the color of their flowers. This area was designed to host a "sensory space," characterized by zones with plots dedicated to specific essences, and plants selected to ensure correct chromatic distribution, as well as aromatic areas hosting species that emit intense fragrance with just the rubbing of their leaves. When an aroma stimulates the brain, the nerve endings in the nose send a message to the limbic system, which governs memory and emotions, and then to the hypothalamus, which regulates the hormonal system. Therefore, some essences have a significant effect on emotional and psychological balance, and are capable of relieving anxiety, sadness, and the effects of stress.
In this area, there are several cultivated varieties of pelargonium (scented geraniums) with unusual and penetrating fragrances, interesting leaves to the touch, and flowers in different shades. A collection of climbing species frames the area, which presents a nucleus of some species of Callistemon with showy inflorescences of different colors, a group of Paeonia of various colors and fragrances, and a set of Hybiscus with striking flowers. The pergola structure hosts various cultivars of roses, with multiple chromatic and aromatic aspects, while the arched structures host several specimens of Jasminum spp.
